A kicsi banner    Robin Foods - [The little Big Banner Challenge] - lBBC

"At the end of 2019 Holzindustrie Schweighofer (HS Timber by its new name) issued a press release, announcing that they are very close to reacquiring their FSC certification.
This week, Romanian authorities announced public prosecutors opened 4 new criminal files against this company. The prosecutors are investigating the company on the suspicion of fraud with official documents.
In the port of Agigea, Romanian Customs officers seized 800,000 euro worth of timber, on the suspicion that the corporation falsified documents for the Romanian wood they export to Japan.
The fact that a company with such an extensive history of breaking Romanian law apparently continues to do so, all the while communicating to the media that they are complying to all FSC requests, is something we find extremely concerning.
Separate to this, we need to mention that HS Timber still has physical traceability back to the forest for only a third of their wood even though the first recommendation of the FSC Expert Panel was that HS needs to establish full forest - mill traceability.
Because of this we respectfully request you to confirm or disconfirm HS Timber (Holzindustrie Schweighofer)'s claim that they will soon get back their FSC certification."

SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) stratégiai per társadalmi részvétel ellen (fordítás Magyar Narancs) néven ismert igen mocskos eljárást alkalmazza, hogy befogja a befektetését ellenző civilek száját.

A kérdések a következők:

Paper submitted by EuroNatur Foundation and Agent Green to the “8th International NGO Forum on World Heritage at Risk” – World Heritage Watch

When one thinks of the natural wonders of Europe, Romania does not necessarily spring to mind as a country home to some of the largest areas of forests of outstanding universal value. However, hosting at least 500,000 hectares of potential primary and old-growth forests (Schickhofer and Schwarz 2019), Romania is easily home to the lion’s share of intact forests in the European Union outside of Scandinavia. Few would appreciate that Romania is home to some of the largest and healthiest populations of large carnivores – bears, wolves and lynx – in all of Europe. However, these ancient forests are being logged before the eyes of the European Union (EU), even at a time when the European Commission has communicated its intent to step up action to protect and restore the world’s forests. Logging, both legal and illegal, is occurring in Natura 2000 sites, national parks and in the buffer zones of UNESCO World Heritage areas, immediately adjacent to the core inscribed properties. The impacts on the integrity of the World Heritage property are undeniable.

Forest biomass – madness. Sustainable forestry – remunerated. Labels for deforestation – odd.
On the way to a fancy pants conference on forests and climate at the European Commission, a bunch of activists get soaked in the Brussels pouring rain. A massive 50 meter banner reads “Save European Primary Forests!”. This sums up the conference.

Frans Timmermans presented himself as the tree-hugger in chief of the EU. “Tackling the climate crisis is not about saving the planet, it’s about saving the humanity. The planet can survive us – it’ll simply get rid of us.”

Agent Green, EuroNatur, Robin Wood közös akció a brüsszeli Erdők, Biodiverzitás, Klíma konferencia előtt, angol sajtóközlemény.
"This is the slogan written on a 50 metre banner that activists unrolled in front of the headquarters of the European Commission this morning. Nearby the international conference on forests convened by the European Commission takes place and will be in session until tomorrow. The NGOs calls for a turn of the EU-politics regarding primary and natural forests. The environmental NGO criticises that the European Commission´s strategy on forests held out in prospect in the “Green Deal” focuses too much on economic objectives instead of the resolute protection of primary and natural forests.

Although the strategy on forests contains relevant aspects, like the afforestation of destroyed and degraded forests in Europe, all the proposed measures centre around the economic valorisation of wood. The demand for wood is immense, but the major part of it is not transformed into durable products, but ends up as paper or pressed wood furniture or is increasingly burnt in the form of pellets and firewood."

BIRN Fact-check: Is Illegal Logging Destroying Romania’s Forests?
While recent revelations of illegal logging in Romania have prompted reports that the forest surface is in decline, available statistics paint to a worrying – but less dramatic – situation.
Illegal logging in Romanian forests has been at the centre of the country’s public agenda for months, as environmental organisations sound the alarm over the apparently free rein unscrupulous extractors of wood enjoy over various areas.
The seriousness of the problem was revealed by the National Forest Inventory, IFN, which calculates the surface of forests and the existing volume of wood they contain.https://balkaninsight.com/2020/02/12/birn-fact-check-is-illegal-logging-destroying-romanias-forests/?fbclid=IwAR3X6JxondtCYN0QyGVqCYvmxKhs_0j1sSuLCkyaCHnbRO0oWv2NT3PaQNQ

Élőlánccal tiltakoztak a Vaskapu-Resicabánya magasfeszültségű vezeték miatt tervezett erdőirtás ellen

Újraindítja a kormány az eljárást Verespatak UNESCO-védelme érdekében
Újraindítja a kormány azt az eljárást, amelynek nyomán felvehetik Verespatakot az ENSZ Nevelésügyi, Tudományos és Kulturális Szervezete (UNESCO) védett kulturális örökségeinek listájára – jelentette be pénteken Bogdan Gheorghiu kulturális miniszter.

Hivatalos: újraindítja Verespatak UNESCO-jelölését a kormány
Újraindítja a kormány azt az eljárást, amelynek nyomán felvehetik Verespatakot az ENSZ Nevelésügyi, Tudományos és Kulturális Szervezete (UNESCO) védett kulturális örökségeinek listájára - jelentette be pénteken Bogdan Gheorghiu kulturális miniszter.

RMDSZ says UNESCO listing won’t save Verespatak/Roșia Montană
After years of silence concerning the disputed Verespatak (Romanian: Roşia Montană) site – the mountain containing one of the largest gold deposits in Europe – the Romanian PM has announced that he will urge the government to initiate the process of adding the site to the UNESCO World Heritage list. The RDMSZ has a different view of the matter, however, and is calling for real action, instead of just dreaming.

Budapesten is zajlott tüntetés a Magyar Természetvédők Szövetsége és más szervezetek szervezésében, ahol mi is kint voltunk, élő közvetítésünket itt tudjátok visszanézni.
Media: Romanian Govt. resumes procedure for Rosia Montana’s inclusion on UNESCO heritage list

The Romanian government decided to resume the procedure for including the Rosia Montana site on the UNESCO World Heritage List, culture minister Bogdan Gheorghiu announced on Friday, January 31.

International Press Release
Brussels, 4th February 2020| SAVE PRIMARY FORESTS!
This is the slogan written on a 50 metre banner that activists unrolled in front of the headquarters of the European Commission this morning.
The demand for wood is immense, but the major part of it is not transformed into durable products, but ends up as paper or pressed wood furniture or is increasingly burnt in the form of pellets and firewood.
The new strategy on forests leads astray if an unconditional protection of the remaining natural and primary forests isn´t guaranteed at the same time. Exclusively focusing on increases in biomass can´t be called a measure for climate protection. Especially not if the produced wood ends up in short-lived consumption.
The effects of overexploiting forests as mere deliverers of wood become particularly evident in Romania. The country has irretrievably lost about 100 000 hectares of its primary and natural forests as well as the species living there, within the last 15 years. This also affects Natura 2000 areas, which are protected according to EU-law. Environmental activists are put under severe pressure in Romania; there have even occurred several cases of murder.
European governments are destroying biodiversity, irreplaceable forests, that can moreover cope a lot better with a changing climate than commercial forests, in front of our eyes. This destruction has to be stopped right now!
Giving money to foresters, so that they can afforest commercial forests, is far from being sufficient. The NGOs demand urgent mapping and protection of all remaning primary and natural forests. Illegal logging has to be prevented, also in Europe. Particularly damages of Natura 2000-areas which are protected according to EU-law, must be strictly pursued by local authorities and must be taken to the European Court of Justice (ECJ). Furthermore, the NGOs call for efficiently managing the resource wood as well as legally binding regulations regarding complete and transparent proofs and certificates of supply chains within the EU. These goals need to find their way into new strategies on forests and biodiversity.

Context:
The European Commission presented a “Green deal” in December 2019, which according to the Commission president Ursula von der Leyen is supposed to achieve no less than “reconciling our economy and our planet”. ROBIN WOOD and other NGOs don´t really put a lot of hope into the “Green Deal” for bringing about a socio-ecological transformation that is capable of placing environmental
protection and nature preservation above economic concerns. This image also applies to the strategy on forests held out in prospect in the “Green Deal”: Incentives for foresters, afforestation and restoration are planned. The preservation of primary and natural forests however plays a minor part.
